away!

after a couple of very fun but tiring weeks we are off for a quick weekend-getaway to Chicago!
I'm super excited since we're also planning to visit farnsworth house tomorrow.

we went to the top of the rock while my parents were in town the other week.
it was just the right time of day with daylight slowly fading into the blue hour.

brooklyn bridge

walking across the brooklyn bridge never ceases to amaze me.
I love the "perspective" geometry of the cables, and the symmetry of it all.

we were lucky to see NYC from above in the evening sun when we returned from germany in september.
it made coming back to our new home a lot easier, and somewhat magical.

Rike's house (02)

Rike's house and garden are so beautiful, always full of things to discover, and the nicest kids I know.

hiking

I don't usually climb mountains very much,
so hiking around Herzogstand and Heimgarten in the bavarian foothills for most of a day
left me tired and sore-footed,
but it was so worth it for the beautiful views.

somehow things in munich were grey too, but a nice cheerful grey since it was sunny.

bonfires and children, part 2

next to the bonfire there was a large field.
when the children weren't watching the fire they were running around in the field.
the colours were amazing enough already, but then the full moon rose. it was so beautiful.

in the bottom picture a man known to me is finishing his giant beer just before falling into a deep 11 hour sleep (at 9 pm).

we were lucky to arrive on the day of a bonfire.

grey in unterhaching

the first stop on our tour through southern Germany was Unterhaching, a small (and, sorry, not particularly inspiring) town outside Munich.
we arrived in the morning after a short night on the plane and were slightly out of tune all day.
things improved after breakfast and a shower at our frinds' place.
the weather was grey and cold, but we took a little walk.

luckily later in the afternoon things lightened up just in time for our first Radler.
