beinecke library


one of the main reasons to stop in new haven was to see yale university's beinecke rare book and manuscript library.

it was built by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in 1963 and is basically an outer hull of concrete profiles and thin marble panels
that sits on only four incredibly small corner points, plus an internal cube full of books.
there was no way I could get interior shots with my 50 mm lens, so check out this wide-angle picture I found on flickr.

In sunny weather the light will shine through the marble panels, which must be an incredible sight.
Since it was a pretty gray day we could only imagine what it could look like,
but still, the building was absolutely stunning.
