farewell

this is a photography project I did in university a couple of years ago.
the theme was "miniatures".
I called my miniseries "farewell", because that was something I felt I could express well
with the placement of the miniature people (despite their lack of variety in facial expressions)
I really love little model people, especially the woman with the pleated skirt.
and I think the guy in my pictures has a mustache!

I took pictures of my rooms,
stretched all the perspective shots into rectangles (in photoshop)
and built a little model in scale 1:50.
I really like how by doing this 2d and 3d get mixed up.

I was thinking of this today, not so much for the resulting pictures (above)
but for the pictures of the actual model (below),
which will always make me remember these two rooms (in a flat shared with three very nice people)
that I loved so much.
they were north-facing, had great light and were heated with coal ovens
(which wasn't that convenient, but very cheap),
and having two rooms made me feel like I had my own little apartment.

I regret not having done this for the other rooms and apartments that I've lived in.
such nice memories.

london spring

1. magnolias on Oakley Road
2. visiting friends at Swiss Cottage
3. south bank
4. a walk along the north bank

it's not very spring-y today and is supposed to get worse tomorrow and on Saturday, just in time for the bank holiday.
But I don't care: it's still spring in my heart!

It's after ten a clock, I'm still in the office issuing drawings and feeling very sorry for myself.

We're moving out of our flat tomorrow. The boxes will take 14 days by boat to arrive in Brooklyn. I still can't believe this is happening. I'll be in London for a few more months, but T. is leaving on Sunday. But before that, tomorrow night, we're going to Porto for a short break. I'm looking forward to a couple of quiet days without any duties at all and to taking lots of pictures. Hopefully. Back next week.

Some picture shot with my Pentax ME a couple of weekends ago.
I'm way behind with uploading pictures to flickr. Oh, actually I'm way behind with almost everything.

Have a lovely weekend!

last weekend

sat: tuna steaks at borough market

sun: english breakfast italian style

I recently bought an SX-70 on ebay and have been trying it out over the last weekends. So far I prefer to use it without an ND filter as by turning the dark/light wheel all the way to dark the shutter speed is great and the images don't blur. I love the fact that it's an SLR and that I have perfect control over what I want to focus on.

I plan to take it out a bit more this weekend.

sun

I was lucky this morning getting some sunshine on my desk and my (very long) to do list. Good start for a cold day.

3. cafe-restaurant-gallery space somewhere in Wapping

Bastia

Sept 4
We didn't really do much in Bastia, the last stop of our journey. We just spent lots of time sitting outside little bars, eating good food, and sleeping. Perfect finale for a great holiday.

Le petit train

Sept 3
We took the train from Ajaccio to Bastia, crossing the island in about 4 hours. Beautiful scenery, sweet little train.

Cimetière Marin, Bonifacio

Aug 29
Stop 2: Bonifacio, Corsica. We stumbled across the Cimetière Marin (according to a tourist brochure the second most beautiful marine cemetary in the mediterranean!)just before sunset. It was an amazing atmosphere to walk through what looked like a town with down-scaled houses. You could hear nothing but the wind. Quite magical.

Memories of warmer days

Aug 28
Our shadows in Ajaccio, Sardinia, the first stop of our journey.
