snow in soho

soho

pink

hi! it's been quiet around here,
mostly because I started working a few weeks ago.
it's not a proper paid job yet, but I'm glad to get out a bit,
and I'm learning about how things work here in the US which is very helpful,
plus getting used to the imperial system (still don't understand why anyone would use it voluntarily!).

if I'm lucky it might turn into a proper job soon,
but I'm also still looking. I really didn't think it would be this hard
when I gave up my job in London last summer.
wish me luck!

the pictures above were taken in Soho (close to where I work now)
two weeks ago during blizzard no. two of this winter.
since yesterday morning we're in the middle of blizzard no. three,
it's the most snow we've had so far and it's supposed to be snowing til tomorrow.
I'm enjoying a day off (I work four days a week), and not having to leave the house.

I wish you a great weekend!

yesterday we took a little trip to sunset park.
it is T.'s old neighborhood from the first time he lived in NYC, 6 years ago.
sunset park is a mexican and chinese neighborhood and famous for great cheap food,
and the view from the park to manhattan is beautiful.

while we were having huevos mexicanos and tacos for brunch
we realized that I had arrived in NYC exactly 6 months ago, on august 13!

after walking around for a while and looking at all the chinese food shops
we took the train to soho,
saw the iannis xenakis exhibit plus a very small one called "sea marks"
at the drawing center and finished the afternoon with a big hot coffee.
I love weekends.

I hope you have/ had a nice one, see you soon!

blizzard, finally

snow!

snow!

snow!

snow!

our street half an hour ago.
it's been snowing for about 24 hours now.
it won't stay very long though, it's too warm out there,
and the streets and sidewalks are slushy under the fresh white cover.

quite fittingly we found ang lee's 'the ice storm'
in our mailbox last night and watched it straight away!

I love watching the snow fall outside the window
and the way the city looks so different with a thick white dusting.

I hope you're staying warm, wherever you are.
good night!

the new yorker - recent favorites

recent favorites

we get the new yorker in the mail every week.
I love to take it out of the mailbox and look at the new cover.
they vary a lot in style, some are political or refer to current events,
and some (like the ones above) just make me smile.
I think the one with the cat is my favorite of all so far.

you can browse all the covers here, and buy them here.

I've been meaning to show you the present T gave me this last christmas,
I finally framed and hung it last weekend.

It's a print by Saul Steinberg, one of my favorite illustrators of all times,
who also did a lot of work for the new yorker.

some pictures from a walk in greenpoint/brooklyn on a sunny and very cold day in december.

right now I'm on my way to sofa + blanket,
to read a book and wait for the snow they promised on the radio this morning.
and for poor T, who is still at work on a friday night at 11.
